About Green Sheet Racing

Early Days

Creating Something That Lasts

Green Sheet Racing’s rich history goes back to the mid-1920s, in the City of Chicago, when two brothers, Thomas Kelly and George Kelly, realized horse racing in Illinois was about to change. Betting on horse racing hadn’t been a legal form of entertainment, but in 1924, the courts ruled that oral betting was legal, and, in 1927, Illinois legalized and began regulating pari-mutuel betting. With a background in news publication and distribution, Tom Kelly realized this was his chance to create something that would last generations.
